What is Computer Memory : –
Memory is the most essential element of a computer because without it computer can’t perform a simple tasks.
Types of Computer Memory :-
Computer memory is of two basic types –
- Primary memory (RAM and ROM)
- Secondary memory (Hard Disk Drive, DVD, Compact Discs (CDs), Floppy Disks, Secure Digital Cards (SD Card) etc).
Note: – Random Access Memory (RAM) is primary-volatile memory and Read-Only Memory (ROM) is primary-non-volatile memory.
Computer memory is generally classified as either internal or external memory.
Internal memory also called “main or primary memory” refers to memory that stores small amounts of data this is very faster in nature.
External memory, also called “secondary memory” refers to a storage device that can retain or store data persistently. They could be embedded or removable storage devices.
What is RAM?
The full form of RAM is Random Access Memory. The information stored in this type of memory is lost when the power supply off. It is generally known as the main memory or temporary memory or cache memory or volatile memory of the computer system.
Difference between RAM and ROM

RAM |
ROM |
1. | Temporary Storage in nature | Permanent Storage in nature |
2. | Stores data in MB’s | Stores data in GB’s |
3. | Volatile in nature | Non – Volatile in nature |
4. | Data Writing Speed is very fast | Data Writing Speed is very slow |
